Project Accessibility
The district headquarter, Fungling is accessible with vehicles over blacktopped road of 782 km from Kathmandu. Handrung is about 20 km earthen road from Fungling. From Handrung to Palun Khola there is newly constructed 37 km long earthen road. There is no any direct vehicular road to the project area from Palun khola. The head works area of the project can be reached in 1 day on foot from the Palun khola now.
Also, from Kathmandu, flights can be taken to Bhadrapur, Jhapa. From there, Fungling can be reached with vehicles which is about 241 km by road. There is airport in Taplejung named Suketar airport but is not in function at the moment. Palun Khola Small Hydropower Project is still not connected by the vehicular road and will be connected very soon by many proposed routes. Though there are many possible routes, among them following option is the shortest route for this project.

Track is already opened up to near Sakrante Bazaar which is nearly 37 km from the Fungling, the District Headquarter of Taplejung District. The route from Fungling to Sakrante Bazaar is as follows:
The earthen road starts from Bahanande which is 7 km from Fungling along the Mechi Rajmarga. From Bahanande, Dovane is 19 km towards North-West direction just after crossing the Tamor River. From Dovane, the road heads towards North direction and reach Lingtep after covering 10 km distance. Finally, the road reaches Sakrante Bazar covering 8 km distance from Lingtep. Now local jeeps and tractors are operating from Dovane to Sakrante Bazaar. After Sakrante Bazaar there is a newly opened earthen vehicular track upto Temba Village and further there is no vehicular road to reach the project site.
Therefore nearly 15 km road from Mewa headworks to Palun Headworks area and nearly 6km road from the powerhouse to Surge shaft and drop shaft area need to constructed as access road to the project area.
